National Night Out

Posted on Wednesday, August 03, 2016

On Tuesday, August 2nd, DC residents, neighborhood leaders, and the Metropolitan Police Department joined together to celebrate National Night Out, an annual community-building event. This year marks the 32nd celebration of the event, which featured gatherings in all seven police districts.

According to MPD, National Night Out is intended to “heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that their neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.” The night’s events varied across the District, with many including cookouts, entertainment, and children’s activities. The DC Victim Hotline attended events in the Third District, where we were able to meet members of the neighborhood, interact with law enforcement, and provide our number and information to individuals in the community.
