Safety Planning Resources

The DC Victim Hotline has compiled a list of frequently needed resources related to safety planning. This is not an exhaustive list of options available to you. The resources listed consist of both national and local resources. If you are interested in resources in jurisdictions other than the District of Columbia (such as Maryland and Virginia) please visit VictimConnect Resource Center.

DC Resources

Metropolitan Police Department provides multiple safety plan templates.

Address Confidentiality Program provides a legal substitute address for eligible DC residents to maintain confidentiality of her or his actual address. This program helps residents who fear for their safety by shielding their street address from public records, providing one tool in an individual’s broader safety plan. The District’s Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) is administered by the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants (OVSJG).

National Resources

Stalking Safety Planning includes general information about safety planning as well as tips for staying safe in a variety of situations.

Tech & Social Media Safety shares a number of safety tips to keep in mind as you use technology.

Technology Safety & Privacy: A Toolkit for Survivors from the National Network to End Domestic Violence contains safety tips, information, and privacy strategies for survivors when using technology.

Stay Safe Online has detailed information about safer internet use.

Path to Safety offers victims of domestic violence resources for safety planning, including situations where there are pets or children involved. It also includes suggestions and information for those fleeing violence, considerations before, during, and after leaving an unsafe situation.

This Interactive Safety Planning Guide is geared towards high school or college victims of abuse or violence. While designed specifically for victims of dating abuse, victims of other forms of violence and abuse may find it helpful.

Tips for Avoiding Financial Fraud Schemes page includes information on avoiding telemarketing fraud, identity theft, advance fee schemes, health insurance fraud, and other financial crimes.
