The resources listed consist of both national and local resources. DC Resources

DC Emergency Shelter Hotline Department of Human Services maintains a 24-hour shelter hotline to facilitate access to information on available programs and services. The Emergency Shelter program provides beds on a first come, first served basis, to any homeless person. Call at 202-399-7039.

Friendship Place: Friendship Place is the premier housing service provider for people experiencing homelessness in the DC region. Their innovative, customized, person-focused programs empower participants to rebuild their lives, find homes, get jobs and reconnect with friends, family and the community, permanently. Call at 202-364-1419.

Virginia Williams Family Resource CenterThe Virginia Williams Family Resource Center (VWFRC) is the central resource center for homeless families with minor and/or dependent children that are experiencing housing instability in the District. Call at 202-526-0017.

DCHousingSearch.org: This is the District of Columbia’s free affordable housing listing and search engine, where you can find everything from accessible homes to affordable rental and for-sale homes. Users can also find helpful resources such as renter’s rights information, assistance programs, and an affordability calculator.

Living Life Alternative’s Program: Living Life Alternative’s Program is the District of Columbia’s LGBTQIA+ low barrier shelter serving homeless individuals of the LGBTQIA+ community. The shelter provides case management services, job readiness training, life skills classes, psychosocial support, health and wellness support, and housing navigation to transition individuals into permanent housing.

National Resources

Housing and Homeless Assistance: Tools for renters and homeowners such as  housing counseling agency directory or  homeless service provider directory and more information for renters, tenants, and homeowners.

Rental Assistance: HUD rental assistance programs include a tool to find  your local public housing agencyHUD resource locatorrental help in your state or more. Contact a  housing counseling agency or call toll-free (800) 569-4287.

Find Shelter: HUD’s tool to find a local shelter, foot pantry, health clinic, or clothing resources.
